Mind-Body Connection

Our mind controls our body. Every movement we make starts with a thought in our head – consciously and subconsciously.

Take this boxer for example: He moves to the left, makes the opponent miss, and throws a huge punch that does damage. Yes, he does have great physical ability but every action begins with a thought in his mind.

If the boxer is inexperienced, he’s most likely conscious about his actions. If he’s been training for years, it’s become a subconscious reaction for the body – a habit.

The Boss and the Secretary

To better explain the mind-body connection, we’ll say that our mind is the “boss” and our body is the “secretary”. The secretary follows orders and assist the boss.

A secretary’s main job is to make life easier for their boss. With less to worry about, the boss thinks clearer, is more productive, less stressed, and focuses on more important matters.

Our bodies should do the same for our mind.

Making Life Easy For the Boss

How exactly can we make life easier for the “boss”?

There is more than just one answer, but it mainly revolves around one thing: taking care of our bodies!

You see, a secretary’s job is to take care of their boss, but what if the secretary stays up all night, is always in a bad mood, and doesn’t get any of the tasks done? The boss becomes frustrated, less productive and stressed out. Of course the boss can just simply fire the secretary and get a new one, but we can’t fire our bodies. It’s the only one we have.

So what do we do? We take care of bodies to make sure it’s performing at it’s best so it can make life easier for our mind. When our mind is happy, we are happy.

Taking Care of the Body

1. Get enough sleep: Resting is a very important. It gives time for our mind and body to re-energize itself for tomorrow. Try getting between 7-9 hours of sleep everyday. Also set a routine so your body gets used to being tired and waking up at a certain time.

2. Eat proper meals: There is a lot of information when it comes to eating right. To sum things up, eating proper for most of us means cutting out the fatty foods. These foods slow our brain down dramatically. Eat 5 meals a day containing of fruits, vegetables, lean meat, grains, fat free food, and drink 8 glasses of water. Avoid eating huge meals. It takes massive energy for our bodies to digest and leaves us feeling tired and less productive.

3. Exercise: The best exercise I can suggest is cardio – anything that gets the heart pumping. Running, jump roping, boxing, and dancing are great examples to increase blood flow to the brain. Cardio exercises gives us more energy, better focus, and the ability to fight off stress. It also speeds up our metabolism so we burn more calories instead of storing it as fat.

Doing these three simple things keeps the “boss” happy and productive. Taking care of our bodies is the key to unlock our mind’s true potential.
